Designing change through architecture, research, and making.
Rebel Base Collective (Rebel CLCTV) is a collaborative design and making practice rooted in architecture, spatial innovation, and critical thinking, working across disciplines, scales, and mediums.
Rebel Base Collective is a South African-based, interdisciplinary architectural design and build studio founded in 2017. We work across architecture, construction, fabrication, and research, delivering projects that balance conceptual exploration with real-world application. Working across South Africa and the African continent, we engage with residential, commercial, and institutional projects at multiple scales.
Our work is driven by creative collaboration and a commitment to delivering solutions tailored to the human experience.
We push the boundaries. We make things you didn’t know you loved. We change design. We design change.
Our practice is collaborative by nature and research-driven by intent. We work across disciplines to develop thoughtful, contextually responsive design solutions that are both conceptually rigorous and technically refined. From early conceptual exploration to detailed execution, our process values experimentation, craft, and innovation, ensuring that every project is resolved with clarity, purpose, and uncompromised design excellence.
Critical, research-driven design thinking.
Designing across scale, context, and experience.
Material-led design from concept through to fabrication.
Working across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
Architecture, construction, fabrication and research working as one continuous conversation.
Nothing arbitrary. Every joint, junction and proportion is resolved with care.
Design that survives contact with construction, climate, budget and time.
Responsible material choices and passive design rooted in the African context.
Spaces measured by the lives they hold, not the images they produce.
Clients, craftspeople and communities treated as genuine co-authors.
Founded in January 2017, RBC started its operation in an apartment in Melville. At this conjuncture, RBC mainly handled minor renovations to houses in the area. Over two years, RBC has grown from small home renovations and a two-person office to major projects in design and aesthetics.
RBC has not only increased its project sizes but has also equipped its operations to accommodate for its design demand and expansion. It now boasts six full-time qualified employees who encourage the design process and support the smooth running of delivering quality services to its clientele.
A fully integrated design, construction, and fabrication ecosystem.
Research is not separate from practice — it is the engine of it. Through Rebel Sechaba we investigate materials, climate, social infrastructure and the future of African urbanism, feeding every insight back into the way we build.
